PRIMARY RECORD
Who is the responsible authority?
Autoridade Central Administrativa Federal para Adoção e Subtração Internacional de Crianças e Adolescentes (ACAF). The CAI country record describes roles, requirements and stages, but must be rechecked before a real application.
Hague Adoption Convention in force since 1999-07-01 according to the CAI country record.
Authorities and process
CAI identifies ACAF as Brazil’s federal central authority. Procedures also involve subnational authorities, so a generic statement that an agency operates in Brazil may not tell an applicant how the specific state-level process works.
Eligibility and important caveats
CAI’s Brazil profile notes legal provision for single applicants. Italian suitability and the country’s requirements are distinct. A legal permission shown in a country guide is not confirmation that an Italian organisation is currently opening new files.
What is distinctive about this country
Published agency fee schedules may separate Italian fees, foreign-procedure costs and extra expenses for sibling groups or out-of-area procedures. A quoted foreign fee is not a total family budget: travel, accommodation, translations and changing requirements remain separate questions.
A legal country profile does not prove an organisation is taking new families. Historical totals cannot predict individual waiting times or matching. Confirm with a competent authority and an authorised organisation.
Three questions to ask before proceeding
- Which Brazilian states can the organisation currently serve?
- Which costs fall outside the published foreign-procedure amount?
- Who confirms the actual number and length of trips?
